One of the things that really blesses me as I watch and observe the congregation here at New Song is the quality of the mothers and grandmothers I see. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate our ladies right up there in the 8-10 department for sure. The proving ground of quality parenting is, of course, found in the children themselves. Around New Song you’ll find children of all ages that are happy and obviously cared for. You just don’t see depressed angry looks around here. If you watch you’ll see and hear, for the most part, smiles and laughter. This is due to the blessing of the Lord upon the godly principles of parenting. I know the fruit of godly mothering today will pay great dividends tomorrow.
The Apostle Paul mentions the influence of two godly women, Lois and Eunice, upon the life of young Timothy. Although, he was powerfully strengthened in his relationship with Paul the foundation was laid by his godly mother and grandmother. It has been proven time and again that world history has been shaped in the home of godly mothers.
Charles Spurgeon, one of the greatest preachers of all time, said “Never could it be possible for any man to estimate what he owes to a godly mother. Certainly I have not the powers of speech with which to set forth my valuation of the choice blessing which the Lord bestowed on me in making me the son of one who prayed for me, and prayed with me. How can I ever forget her tearful eye when she warned me to escape from the wrath to come? How can I ever forget when she bowed her knee, and with her arms about my neck, prayed, ‘Oh, that my son might live before Thee!’”
Mothers, be encouraged! Your prayers, the Bible stories you read, the songs they hear you singing, even your lectures and discipline are all laying a foundation for the powerful men and women to come. Your role in these lives is not to be underestimated; you are building the church to come. Keep it up. Your love for these will not go unrewarded!
